One of the earliest written references to Cider can be found in the Wycliffe ‘Cider’ Bible, printed in the early 15th Century. The Bible gets its name from the translation of the verse ‘For he (John the Baptist) shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink...’. The Cider Bible uses the word ‘cider’ (sidir) for strong drink and it can be viewed today in Hereford Cathedral’s Chained Library.

Growers Update online goes live

March 05 2010

Welcome to the online version of Growers’ Update, it is specifically for and about growers and the issues that concern them. It is intended as a practical and topical forum to keep established, and new, growers up to date with developments in their industry as well as offering advice and guidance where appropriate.

We also hope that it will be a two way forum where apple and perry pear growers can share ideas with their colleagues and pass on advice and experience.

We will be very pleased to hear from you with suggestions and ideas. To get in touch please contact:
