Watergull Orchards prepares to double output after Kreuzmayr deal

July 08 2011

Cambridgeshire-based juice producer Watergull Orchards has signed a machinery deal that will double its juicing capacity.

Watergull, which supplies apple juice under its own label to branches of Waitrose, Hilton Hotels and the National Trust across East Anglia and the Home Counties, has replaced its old Voran press with state-of-art Kreuzmayr equipment that can process up to 12 tonnes a day.

The new machines also give Watergull the ability to process other fruit and vegetables such as pears, beetroot and carrot as well apples for the first time, allowing it to expand into other markets.

The deal marks the first time Kreuzmayr equipment has been sold in the UK, and follows a tie up between the Austrian manufacturer and UK distributor Core Equipment.

Watergull owner David Fisher said the equipment, which included a Kreuzmayr KEB 750 belt press and KWE 3000 washing elevator would take the company to “the next level”. As well as greater belt width and capacity, the Kreuzmayr machines have variable feed speeds, an advanced washing system for the fruit, and are easy to clean.

“These machines are a significant investment for us, but the increase in both capacity, and range of juice types we will be able to produce, give us the opportunity to expand the business,” said Fisher.

“That in turn will allow us to do more contract work for growers and retailers who simply don’t have the ability to process produce at the same rate we can.”

Core Equipment MD Jonathan Chaplin said: “Bringing Kreuzmayr to the UK gives producers access to one of the most widely-respected manufacturers of juicing equipment in Europe.”

About Kreuzmayr

Founded by Robert Kreuzmayr in 1993, Kreuzmayr develops and produces machinery and equipment for fruit juice production. Kreuzmayer was formally the technical director of Voran, before deciding to set up his own company where he was able to turn many of his new ideas into new products. The company now produces a wide range of apple and fruit processing equipment from elevators and presses through to pasteurisers and bottling equipment. They even produce de-humidifying ovens for fruit and meat products. The list price of the Kreuzmayr KEB 750 belt press is £47,775. For the KWE 3000 washing elevator, it is £12,705.
