45% of all the apples grown in the UK are now used here for cider making. A reducing amount of apple juice concentrate from central European countries like Austria, Germany and Italy is required to make up the shortfall and to blend to produce certain styles of cider.

Thatchers Gold media campaign goes national

Thatchers Cider is going national this summer with further investment in the media campaign for its flagship brand, Thatchers Gold.  The Somerset cider maker is including UK national coverage through Sky channels, together with cinema, in its campaign for the first time.

The People Who Care About Cider campaign now takes in Sky Sports and Sky News, Sky Comedy as well as Sky 1, 2 and 3.

It is also being extended to cover ITV1 regions Granada and Yorkshire, alongside the core area of Central, West Country, West of England and Meridian, where the campaign has been running since April.

The animated People Who Care About Cider commercial, which celebrates the heritage and care that Thatchers brings to its ciders, is also to be shown in 379 cinemas throughout these targeted areas over the key summer and holiday period, with an estimated 4.8 million admissions.

48-sheet outdoor sites are being used to support the TV and cinema messages over the summer.

Managing director of Thatchers, Martin Thatcher comments, “This is heavyweight support for our flagship brand. With this additional investment we are now reaching a national audience through Sky channels, focussing in on male targeted programming. Over half of the UK can now see our Thatchers Gold commercial on ITV1.

“The expertise we put into our ciders has taken over a century to acquire. With this campaign we are looking to focus on the values that make Thatchers unique – family, heritage, care and expertise.” 

The campaign, starting on 5th July and running to the end of August is worth £1.5million (rate card value).

Thatchers Gold is a 4.8%, refreshing cider with a smooth appley taste and a bright sparkle. Thatchers combines its traditional approach with modern techniques to craft Gold, which continues to drive the cidermaker’s sales in both the on and off trade. Thatchers Cider has seen impressive growth of around 700% over the last five years.
