One of the earliest written references to Cider can be found in the Wycliffe ‘Cider’ Bible, printed in the early 15th Century. The Bible gets its name from the translation of the verse ‘For he (John the Baptist) shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink...’. The Cider Bible uses the word ‘cider’ (sidir) for strong drink and it can be viewed today in Hereford Cathedral’s Chained Library.

Gaymer strengthens music ties

April 01 2009

Gaymer Cider Company has won a significant contract for its priority brand, Gaymers, to supply cider to all five of London’s exclusive Mint Group venues, including the legendary KOKO nightclub in Camden, one of the UK’s top music venues.

The deal further cements Gaymers’ position as a brand which is heavily associated with music.  In addition to KOKO, the contract sees Gaymers – both its original and pear ciders - stocked in Mint’s other top London outlets including Clapham’s Bison & Bird and Infernos nightclub, as well as Fulham’s Elk Bar and Mary Janes in the City of London.

Following on from the success of its music marketing campaign last year, Gaymers will again be investing in music in a big way in 2009, and distribution in music venues and associated outlets is key to driving trial with consumers.

Peter Spencer, Managing Director at Gaymer Cider Company says: 'We’ve invested a lot in the past year to build Gaymers as a music brand, so it’s great that the Mint Group, with a venue as iconic and full of heritage as KOKO, should recognise this and see us as the right cider for their venues.'

Larry Seymour, Director of Operations for Mint Group says: 'Gaymers has made its mark on the scene as a credible music brand, so we saw a natural fit with our venues.  We look forward to a long and productive partnership with Gaymers.'

As part of its headline sponsorship of the Gaymers Camden Crawl, KOKO will be Gaymers’ host venue for the two day festival in April.
