Event Planned To Launch New Orchard Initiative

February 11 2011

The Herefordshire Orchards Network of Excellence, or HONE for short, will officially launch at the Orchard Block on the Holme Lacy campus of Herefordshire Technology College.

The project is being supported by The Bulmer Foundation, an independent charity that receives funding and support from Heineken UK.

Project Manager for HONE, Emily Durrant said: “This is an exciting opportunity for growers and cider makers to get involved with hands-on research, skills training and the sharing of knowledge.

“We hope that the network will also generate a raft of new ideas to improve orcharding practice in Herefordshire and further afield.”

Emily added: “If people are interested to know more and feel they can make a contribution we want to hear from them and if they can join us for the launch, then so much the better.”

The focus will primarily be on bush orchards as opposed to traditional or ‘standard’ orchards as bush orchards provide the vast majority of the fruit grown in the county and present the greatest opportunity to deliver improvement.

Places at the launch event are limited. To reserve a place at the launch or for more information on the project contact Emily Durrant via or 07768 950 249.
