Chancellor Enjoys Taste of Success at the Shepton Mallet Cider Mill
May 10 2011
The Chancellor, George Osborne, enjoyed some West Country refreshment when he visited the Shepton Mallet Cider Mill last week on his brief trip to Devon and Somerset.
Home of leading brands Blackthorn and Gaymers, the Cider Mill is the largest manufacturer of cider in the South West and a key employer in the area. Over the last decade, investment in the Cider Mill has made it one of the most modern and efficient cider production facilities in the world, a fact that didn’t escape Mr Osborne’s attention when he enjoyed a factory tour. He commented on his desire to see the growth of such successful manufacturing businesses in the South West.
Bob Cork, Master Cidermaker & General Manager at the Mill, said: “we were delighted when we were told that Mr Osborne wanted to include the Shepton Mallet Cider Mill on his visit to the West Country. We are an employer of choice in the local area and justly proud of the site. It was good to be given the opportunity to really show off what we have achieved here and our cider production facility. “
