Brussels conference brings international producers together
October 01 2010An important conference that will discuss the cider and fruit wine industries right across the globe is being held in Brussels on October 27.
The conference, organised by the European Cider and Fruit Wine industry, will examine the global character of cider and fruit wines and importantly look to the future of the industry and the challenges that it will face for the future.
Leading the UK delegation will be chairman of the UK’s National Association of Cider Makers, Henry Chevallier Guild, who will be chairing the morning session.
This will examine the scale of the market and discuss consumer behaviour with regard to alcoholic products, and consider the importance of product innovation.
Looking to the future the conference will review the outlook for sourcing raw materials which links closely to a paper from the UK cider industry’s expert on sustainable development, Richard Heathcote, who will be presenting a case study on the very real progress being made in this field by the UK cider industry.
The second session sees the conference discuss just how successful has been the European fruit wine industry, while the international theme continues with contributions from a representative of the Canadian Cider Makers Association, an insight into the market in Australia and New Zealand and the cider making heritage of Northern Spain.
The conference, being held at the Silken Berlaymont Hotel, Brussels, concludes with consideration of the important social issues surrounding alcohol when a spokesman from the European spirits industry will make a presentation, followed by the chief executive from the UK based Drinkaware which provides consumers with information to make informed decisions about the effects of alcohol on their lives and lifestyles.
'This is an important conference which gives producers right across Europe and beyond the opportunity to meet and discuss the many issues that affect how they do business both now and in the future,' said Bob Price, NACM Director General.
