It’s time to put on the gardening gloves and sharpen the secateurs for the region’s most colourful and fragrant event of the year – Mendip in Bloom.
The Shepton Mallet Cider Mill is delighted to announce its support, once again, for this annual competition, sponsoring three of the key categories: Best Town, Best Village and Best Rural Pub.
The launch of the 2011 Mendip in Bloom awards was hosted recently by The Shepton Mallet Cider Mill. Bob Chaplin, Master Cidermaker & Orcharding Manager at the Mill, commented: “we are committed to supporting community events, and this is one of the year’s highlights. It’s not just about flowers - it is about passion and enthusiasm, and enhancing the environment in which we live and work. Importantly, it has also done a valiant job over the years to bring visitors to this very beautiful part of the country.”
Last year’s “Best Village” – Nunney - was represented at the launch by Ann Hutchings and Nora Lestrange. Reinforcing Bob’s comments, Ann said: “we were obviously very proud to receive the 2010 award – it was a great acknowledgement of all the hard work, time and effort that goes into the competition. The prize money was also fantastic; it was put towards our ongoing community project of turning a local old quarry into an area to be enjoyed by both residents and visitors. We have been able to plant trees, shrubs, lay pathways and encourage wild flowers to grow, to the extent that it will be part of the Open Gardens event at the end of June.”
So, with the closing date for Mendip in Bloom entries of 11th July and all to play for, there’s no time to rest on your laurels. For further information, visit www.mendipinbloom.org.uk
