Best year yet for Aspall
May 12 2010Super-premium cyder-maker Aspall is celebrating its best year yet, following increased throughputs in pubs, a highly successful mulled cyder season, and an increased investment into its premium PoS material and branded glassware.
According to the latest figures from on-trade market intelligence agency CGA Centro, Aspall Draught Suffolk Cyder is up 14% in the total on-trade and 40% in value terms in the managed pub sector.
Ashley Cairns, CGA Strategy director, confirms: 'Aspall Suffolk Cyder is now the clear leader in the specialist cider market, having experienced its most successful year ever. According to our latest figures (CGA Strategy MAT to end of Feb 2010), Aspall Draught Suffolk Cyder (keg format) has grown 14% in the total on-trade and 40% in value terms within the managed pub sector.'
Geoff Bradman, Aspall commercial director, says: 'We have just finished our year-end and it has been a phenomenal year for us despite the challenging economic environment in 2009. While we have gained some distribution in the on-trade, it is our increased throughputs per outlet that have really driven volumes, and these continue to grow consistently year-on-year.
'During the last 12 months we have massively ramped up our investment behind the brand, with an increased level of premium PoS material available to on-trade customers, as well as quadrupling our spend on our Aspall-branded glassware, an essential part of the Aspall serve.
'Our production and factory teams have also worked incredibly hard to keep up with our extended distribution and ensure that quality remains first and foremost. We last month announced a £1m investment into the brand for the coming year which can only help to maintain this momentum.'
Geoff added that winning the World’s Best Cider Award for a second consecutive year in February is also testament to the fact that the cyder’s 100% apple juice content and complex blend of bitter-sweet and culinary apples provides the best quality taste possible. This complex blend has been handed down through eight generations of the Chevallier family since 1728 and to this day, the family still signs off every single batch of cyder before it is bottled.
