Aspall scoops majority of World Cider Awards 2009

February 08 2010

Aspall Premier Cru has been named the World’s Best Cider at the World Cider Awards 2009, for the second consecutive year.

The super-premium cyder-maker won a total of four of the six Best World Cider Awards: as well as winning the overall World’s Best Cider (which it also won in 2008), Aspall Premier Cru won World's Best Dry Cider; Aspall Organic Suffolk Cyder was named the World’s Best Speciality Cider; and Aspall Draught Suffolk Cyder (bottled format) scooped the World's Best Medium Cider.

The remaining two prizes both went to Gaymers: the World’s Best Sweet Cider was named as Gaymers Original, and Gaymers Pear Cider won the World’s Best Perry award. Aspall does not currently produce a sweet or perry cider.

The World Cider Awards were launched in 2008, to draw attention to the vast array of exceptional ciders now available.
Barry Chevallier Guild, Aspall partner, said: 'To win the World’s Best Cider Award with Aspall Premier Cru for a second year running is phenomenal, but our other cyders also winning the World’s Best Cider Awards for their categories reflects the huge strength of the range. We are delighted with these exceptional results which we believe reflect the fact that quality has, and always will, come first and foremost for us.

'All our cyders are made from a complex blend of both bitter-sweet and culinary apples and are fermented from 100% apple juice, which gives them their exquisite taste profile,' he said.
